Our philosophy

We are developing as low a carbon lifestyle as possible at CUSTOM and encourage positive living through personal awareness and an increased connection to our surroundings. We climb, run, swim, ride and surf as often as we can and find inspiration in the mountains, forests, beaches and ocean.

We are also passionate about what we eat and we pride ourselves on an ability to create healthy, delicious food as a team. It is always nutritious, easy on the planet and like many of our staff, fully vegan. We think it is so good we have created and published our own cookbook THE VEGAN BUILD. CUSTOM Workshop

Almost everything is possible … and from our two workshops in France and on the Isle of Wight we create sustainable handmade kitchens and bespoke furniture, so every element of your project is unique. The real beauty of this is that we can create distinctly personal spaces whilst keeping our carbon footprint as low as possible.

Finding alternatives

We are passionate about finding environmentally friendly alternatives to materials such as insulation, timber, paint and adhesives. We will always re use as much as we can and we take the art of upcycling extremely seriously. We source much of our wood from reclamation yards or direct from a demolition site. Old wooden floor joists become an industrial sliding door, aged rafters make a beautiful distressed table, used scaffold boards can be re engineered to make a kitchen... in fact many of our best designed and built spaces have achieved their character through the use of second hand materials.

The importance of being … A team

There's something special about being part of a team ... It's something to do with that warm feeling you get when you really trust the people around you or when something amazing happens and you can say 'we did that'. Sometimes you just need someone to bounce ideas off or laugh with throughout the day ... and even though as individuals we are brilliant, it is as a team that we are exceptional.
